ABOUT NEXT PHASE
Built by players. Designed for the next generation.
THE STORY
Next Phase Hockey was founded on a simple belief: that the best coaching happens in small groups, with high standards, and a genuine investment in every player's development.
After years of playing and coaching at representative level, we saw the same gap over and over — talented young players who weren't getting the individual attention they needed to take the next step. Club sessions are crowded. School programs are stretched. The players who thrive are often the ones lucky enough to have extra support.
Next Phase was built to close that gap. Small groups. Expert coaching. A program designed around the player, not the other way around.
DEVELOP
Technical excellence is the foundation. We build players from the ground up — stick skills, game sense, physical literacy — with a focus on the fundamentals that last a career.
COMPETE
We train the competitive mindset. Resilience, focus, and the ability to perform under pressure are skills that can be coached — and we coach them every session.
BELONG
Hockey is better together. Our mixed-gender, multi-age-group environment creates a community where every player is valued, challenged, and supported.
YOUR COACH
taylor thomson
Head Coach & Founder
Hi, I'm Taylor — the coach behind Next Phase Hockey.
I've been fortunate to represent NSW, ACT and Australia across both indoor and outdoor hockey, from junior representative level through to senior high-performance squads. I've also been part of AHL and Canberra Chill squads and won seven First Grade premierships across Sydney and Canberra.
I've never built my game around being the flashiest player on the field. My strength has always been understanding the game, making good decisions and relying on strong fundamentals. That's shaped the way I coach.
At Next Phase Hockey, I want players to build those foundations first — strong basics, good habits and better game awareness — before worrying about the fancy stuff. Once the fundamentals are there, everything else becomes easier to build.
Master the basics. Understand the game. Build from there.
